Hi There, my name’s Jonny, and I’m the founder of Neuro-Nudge. I’ve spent the last 20+ years of my life fascinated with diet and exercise. While I was a fitness freak when I was younger, some injuries and struggles with addiction led to a sedentary lifestyle until I was about 30 lbs overweight.
What baffled me was that I knew what to do. I constantly read about nutrition, exercise, and habit formation, and was even a personal trainer along the way. So if I knew what to do, why did I struggle to do it?
The reason I discovered was simple. I had let my willpower atrophy by chasing comfort. I learned that the areas of the brain responsible for willpower are like a muscle. When you force yourself to do something you don’t want to do (use your willpower), you are exercising your willpower, and those areas of the brain get stronger. Chase comfort, and those areas get weaker.
So I started going out of my way to do things I didn’t want to do. Every time I did, I tracked it. As I did this more and more, I developed some strategies and techniques to help overcome that internal resistance when I was really struggling. The result was that I lost 40 lbs and am in the best shape I’ve been in since college.
